Who is this course for?
This course is designed for all member of staff nominated for potential fire fighting duties at their place of work.
What will I learn?
The course gives the nominated person the confidence to approach a small workplace fire and use a first aid fire fighting appliance correctly and efficiently.
Learning outcomes or contents:
The course has five broad learning outcomes:
- Chemistry of fire
- The Fire Triangle
- The classification of fire
- Fire extinguisher types and variations
- Practical fire fighting experience
How is the programme run?
The course is a short course, usually just under 2 hours and is split into 2 areas.
First portion is classroom based, incorporating exercises and question and answer sessions in conjunction with Power-point and fire scene videos for an interactive course. The course content can be adjusted to focus on the key areas affecting you: the information here is for "standard" course but can be tailored to your requirements.
The second portion of the course is held outside at a small area of the site. Live practical fire fighting experience is gained through the use of fire extinguishers and a LPG powered fire simulator.
Course Certification
A certificate of attendance is awarded to each delegate following completion of the course. An optional multiple-choice assessment can be incorporated at the end of the training to verify learning achievement. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) order 2005 requires refresher training every year.
